2020 BRACKENDALE FALL FAIR CANCELLED

The Brackendale Farmers Institute holds optimism for a return to hosting the Brackendale Fall Fair in the future when COVID-19 is behind us as a memory of the time when we lost loved ones, we took care of our families and friends, and life turned chaotic, chugged on or slowed down completely.  We admire the leadership of governments and communities who worked together to help one another in this unprecedented time. Some folks had more work than they ever had before, while others lost work and put their energies to new activities like teaching, gardening, and bread making, or all of it.  We applaud you all.

Since the inception of our local Farmers Institute in 1915, countless generations have attended the local Fall Fair. We have survived:

One pandemic (1918)

Two world wars (1914 – 1918 & 1939 – 1945)

One depression (1929 - 1933)

Ten recessions (1937-38, 1948, 1951, 1954, 1958, 1961, 1975, 1980 -82, 1992, 2008)

Proof that the farmer does in fact feed us all, through thick and thin.

Now more than ever, we need to support our local farmers, food processors, & artisans.

And we need to say a big THANK YOU to past volunteers and especially the year round volunteer, Derek Smith. One wonderful man who maintains the BFI Park so you can enjoy an outdoor walk, picnic, or solitude.  When you see him, greet him and congratulate him for providing a space loved by many. You might even offer some assistance in park maintenance. Derek and BFI have created an asset to this community all by volunteerism. That is the heart of our town beating strongly.

To the established residents and the newcomers of Squamish, our community organization, The Brackendale Farmers Institute and Brackendale Fall Fair welcome everyone, whether you be a volunteer, participant or attendee.  It is only with your support and volunteer participation that the BFI Park, the Fall Fair, and Howe Sound Secondary High School scholarships, happens at all.

In the Fall Fair galleries on our website you can see historical photos of locals participating in the fall fair, exhibition category pamphlets from 1921 and information for current activities and events. https://www.brackendalefarmersinstitute.org/galleries

Should you wish to submit photos or videos of your successes, which would normally be entered in the Exhibit Competition, please submit to BFI and we will publish on the website. Include your Name and Category of Entry. No entry fee or prizes this year.

Thank you everyone, for your support in the past and the future.
