January 17 - Squamish Tourism posts 2020 Brackendale Fall Fair https://www.exploresquamish.com/events/brackendale-fall-fair

January 18 - Goodwin Creative to begin construction of new BFI website. Plan is to launch by April. goodwincreative.ca

January 22 - BFI meeting was well attended with lively discussion on a number of topics. Of special interest was the treasurer’s report on BFI donations to the community over the past nine years, which was a whooping total of $21,600.00.

Jan 28 - District of Squamish COW presentation by Squamish Valley Agricultural Plan Committee. See final Draft below in Feb 20. Thank you to Ione Smith for providing an excellent process & info.

District of Squamish Wildfire Prevention walk about at Brackendale Farmers Institute Park to review prescription for formalizing treatment plan. If anyone knows of any concerns or sensitivities re the park, please contact me so I can pass the information along to BA Blackwell Forestry Consultants. FYI - the tallest tree in the park measures 103.9 cm in diameter (at breast height – 1.3 m) and 60.8 m tall.

Jan 30 - Feb 1 - Pacific Agriculture Show www.agricultureshow.net and Horticulture Short Course Program. An excellent show to attend. The Short Course program had 98 classes to chose from including various subjects on categories: Berries, Greenhouse Vegetables, Field Crop Vegetables, Agroforestry, Floriculture, Business Management, Water Management, Potatoes, Cannabis, Direct Farm Marketing, Hazelnuts, Hops, Organics, Mushrooms. Over 271 Exhibitors showcased their wares.

Learned that there is funding for Knowledge Transfer - watch for future speakers at BFI meetings.

A binder of pamphlets will be available to view at BFI meetings.

Feb 1-2 - Congrats to Brackendale’s Kama Woods who won Gold at the BC BigLeaf Maple Syrup Festival at the BC Forestry Center. bcforestdiscoverycentre.com/?page_id=84. Kama won for her dark maple syrup, which she harvests in the Squamish Valley. Congrats Kama!

Feb 2 - Maple Syrup Tapping Workshop at Cheakamus Center in Paradise Valley.

Feb 6 - Stony Mountain Farm egg sales on Sundays 10 am - 1 pm at  # 8 - 38936 Queens Way, at Genesis Flooring Showroom next door to Bowerman’s and Drop Bar Cycle.

Feb 6 - Nutrient Dense Farms opens their CAS (Community Shared Agriculture Box) subscriptions. www.nutrientdensefarms.net/csa-share-options-and-agreement
